Nurgle lord – the end is in sight! (maybe)

I can’t believe that I hadn’t posted these, or maybe I had, but I couldn’t find them…

Anyhoo, to kick off 2011, our first contender is a WCF veteran, as he’s been on here from the start, my Nurgle Lord. I tend to do a little, and put him away, then come back and do some more… still, he seems happy enough, belching and farting in my gaming closet… This year, though, I’m aiming to have more completed stuff posted and not just dribs and drabs. This guy, though, is the exception. He didn’t do too badly in a game I had just before xmas either. yay!

You can see the PP ‘Bloodstone’ base that I use for the basis of my rusted metal here.

A brown ink was over the bloodstone gives it depth…

Boltgun metal, chainmail highlights and some chestnut ink to finish the job!

He’s getting there! Another couple of hours should get the job done. In the meantime though, I am working on my Black Templars Rhino.

Black is such a pain in the arse to paint >sigh<

Some WIP updates – multi-tasking aint so bad.

Throwing caution to the wind, I have actually been working on several projects at once. I’ve actually found it somewhat liberating, as I can see progression on a number of different things at once, instead of painting one mini/unit and then thinking ‘wow, I still have a shit load of stuff to do’.

Did some more work on Evan’s Nurgle Rhino. I figured I should as I was running out of excuses lol! Weathered it a little, using the same technique I had used on my Chimera a little while back:

Next i’ll be adding the rusted metal colors on there, and figuring out what color to do all the gross bits. Painting this up prompted me to start another side project, which happened frighteningly quick, but I won’t go into detail here, as i’m writing a separate article about it. I’ll show you a teaser though:

I also started on a Wolf Guard Terminator as well. He’s painted using the recipe I used on the other shap I showed  y’all recently.  I’ll be redoing the flesh though, as I wasn’t happy with the way it turned out with this formula:

Arse shot!

There are some spots that need tidying up, but I want to add some weathering too, so I’ll wait till i’ve done that. I also have a Black Templar Rhino sitting on my worktop that keeps honking it’s horn impatiently at me. I suspect that little bugger will get worked on over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thats it for today! i’ll be back shortly, enjoy!

Chaos Lord WIP and Black Templar

I thought I had already posted these, but a quick look revealed otherwise. I have been slowly working on my Nurgle Lord, playing around with the corroded metal. I think I have found a way that I am happy with, although it may get a final wash to dull it down a little. I’m undecided as to what color to do his cloak. Maybe a deep, worn red? I even thought about possible a dirty, off-white, maybe a remnant of his former days as a Death Guard under the Emperor. Any suggestions?

and here is my first completed Black Templar, not too much to say except, err, wibble. 🙂

Well, thats about it for now. Stay tuned, and please, join up with Chamber Militant!

Cheers

Nurgle Lord WIP! update

OK, just a quickie before I go out for a game of 40K. I started on my Nurgle Lord the other night. I think i’m pretty happy with the armor color, but I want to experiment with some washes as well, check it out:

Hopefully I’ll get him finished this week. I’m pretty happy with how the helmet looks and i’m glad that I added the extra horns, as it makes him look a little more plaguebearer like.

Cheers!

Nurgle Chaos Terminator Lord – WIP

Indeed, another project I managed to squeeze in when I had a spare few moments. As I mentioned earlier today, I picked up the Chaos Terminator Lord, and I have to say, it is a beautiful and spectacularly decadent mini to put together. I wanted him to be bombastic and looking ready to deal out some serious pain. I was having a hard time deciding what weapons to give him, as I loved all the combinations. In the end I decided on giving him lightning claws, as I figured the prospect of getting up close and personal with this guy would be truly terrifying. I added the cape and the spikey racks to add to the general air of malice that exudes from every weeping pore. Why not put him on the over-the-top chaos rubble base too, to add some extra height? so I did! it also allowed me to position him so it looks as though he’s about to jump over and start leathering the poop out of some poor, unfortunate sap. I was thinking that if it was any good, maybe even entering it into Golden Demon next year. Anyhoo, check out the pictures and see what you think!

Quick update – December 30th

Wow! what a busy holiday break! I think I need a vacation….

Added to the already swelling ranks. Newest additions to the mini collection are:

  • Box of Black Templar Sword Bretheren
  • Chaplain in Terminator Armor
  • Black Templar upgrade kit
  • Box of Sternguard Veterans
  • Forgeworld Death Guard conversion set
  • Forgeworld Apostate Preachers of Nurgle
  • Forgeworld upgrade kits for Black Templar Terminators
  • Forgeworld Black Templar Venerable Dreadnaught

So, plenty to keep me busy into the new year and beyond! I also picked up a Chaos Terminator Lord, the plastic boxed figure, and have already assembled it, and GS’d it too! He is now a grim and bloated Chaos Lord of Nurgle. I’ll post pictures up soon. I need to get on board with all my other projects!

Thats it for now, have a great New Year!!

Quick update – Nurgle Rhino WIP

Hi all!

The work on the Nurgle Rhino is finally done. and ready for priming! In total there is about 5 hours work on this, and thats after the basic body was built. I finished the GS-ing last night, with the addition of the Nurgle icon eyeballs, and a couple more patches of goo. I added a couple of patches of sand as well here and there, which will be painted up like some sort of crusty disease when I paint it.  The only thing I need to do now is glue a spike on the (ex)Death Korps chap…

eyes to despise...

WIP – Chaos Space Marine Nurgle Rhino

In between all my other projects I have been working on my friends Rhino. He had the basic shell assembled and he gave me assorted bits to use on there. So, I think I am almost at the ready line to start painting. There are a few flash lines I need to trim, but other than that, I think it’s pretty much there. I still want to add a spike to the top of the Death Korps guys helmet, to keep in with that WW2 feel that the Plague Marines have. The colors will be the usual greens and browns, with exposed and rusted metal, and some glazes of yellow and brown for that truly virulent look.

From the vaults – Forge World Nurgle Dreadnought

While clearing out lots of unused stuff on my computer I found these pictures of a Forge World dready that I painted a few years back. Alas I no longer have him, he made his way to my buddy Matt back in the Motherland, and he now watches over it. I feel I should have at least finished the base on it, but oh well, I am sure Matty has finished the job!

I will probably end up getting another one at some point, as Nurgle has always held a soft (read: rotting) place in my heart. The deathguard will return once more, i’m sure.

This weekend I plan on picking up some green stuff so that I can fill the gaps on my Black Templar dready, and then I can prime him! I really want to get on board with constructing my Templars, but I need the upgrade kit, and $30 just isn’t available right now. Still, I can do some basic marines that haven’t received their full robes yet I guess.

Matt Crump will be putting a page up here soon, Matt was a Golden Demon finalist recently, in the Warhammer Single Mini category. He asked if he could put a picture of his entry up, so I offered him to do his own page here at WCF, as his work is stunning!

More to come!
