WIP – Destroyer Khador heavy Warjack

As promised in my December painting challenge, work has begun on the Destroyer! Work has also started on Eiryss too, but I took this picture before that began, so I’ll post some more pictures later.

destroyer

I want him to look work and battle weary. He’s going to have some rust spots and some chips, and snow clumped on him too. I was deliberatley slapdash with the highlighting to start giving him that ‘been in a few fights’ type look.

December painting challenge…

So, I have pledged that the month of December (starting in true, Khadoran, snowy fashion) shall yield me completing two minis. The first being my Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios and my Destroyer Warjack. The destroyer won’t be in the usual Khador red, I opted for green on this guy. There will be some hits of red, but I really, and I mean really hate painting red. I figured a WW2 style green armour would look cool. I can see it having plenty of weathering and some rust patches, and will even be putting some snow on him too. I figured I would change the schemes up for different units/jacks in my Khador army. One of the things that bothers me about Warmachine is that each faction has its color. Its like a bloody football team or something.

Eiryss will be dropping the green cloak in favor of a snowy white cloak, to keep in theme with the northlands, with a green surcoat and a pale ice blue on the inside of her cloak. She’ll probably have brown leather boots, and will be complemented by a snow covered base. I want to convey her ‘invisibilty’ attribute by having her well camoflaged, only distinguishing the gear she is wearing underneath her cloak. I also own the alternate sculpt that was available through No Quarter magazine, and in my opinion is a far superior sculpt to the one i’ll be painting. The original, while dynamic, looks a little odd on the battlefield with the ‘movement’ of the figure, exaggerated by the positioning of the cloak. Does she only run backward? or is the wind always blowing from behind her? Sometimes I think Privateer Press should think less about crazy dynamic posing, and more about pose durability with their figures. Still, if this plastic rumor is to be believed, then we’ll see a world of difference…

I’ll start posting photo’s of the progression soon!!

New page added – the work of Matt Crump

Hi all!

I’m very excited as it would seem that my humble page is getting a lot of traffic, so thank you to all those who swing by here to check out the handiwork! Please feel free to leave c+c on anything here!

My good friend and long time wargame compadre Matt has sent over some pictures of his work, including his Golden Demon 2008 single figure category winner ‘The Masque’, so throw some smoke cannisters and charge on over to https://whencannonsfade.wordpress.com/in-battle-there-is-no-law-the-work-of-matt-crump/ and check it out. I am hoping this will be the start of a collaborative effort, and that Matty will grace us with some more pictures soon *hint hint* 🙂

Cheers!

From the vaults – Forward Kommander Sorscha Kratikoff

Indeed! I found more pictures I forgot I had! These are pretty small, and unfortunately don’t do the mini too much justice, but in the interest of getting my page up and running, i’ll post them anyway. I always thought it a little bizarre that a faction that dwells predominantly in the Northlands would have their color as red. Surely this would make you somewhat of an easy target in the frozen lands, no? sneak attacks? I don’t think so! Anyhoo, here, my Forward Kommander Sorscha Kratikoff is in her red uniform. I do have the Epic Sorscha which I will be doing in white.

Currently I am working on my Destroyer Warjack, which is actually going to be green (lots of forests up north!). I’ll be sure to get some pictures up over the weekend.

From the vaults – Forge World Nurgle Dreadnought

While clearing out lots of unused stuff on my computer I found these pictures of a Forge World dready that I painted a few years back. Alas I no longer have him, he made his way to my buddy Matt back in the Motherland, and he now watches over it. I feel I should have at least finished the base on it, but oh well, I am sure Matty has finished the job!

I will probably end up getting another one at some point, as Nurgle has always held a soft (read: rotting) place in my heart. The deathguard will return once more, i’m sure.

This weekend I plan on picking up some green stuff so that I can fill the gaps on my Black Templar dready, and then I can prime him! I really want to get on board with constructing my Templars, but I need the upgrade kit, and $30 just isn’t available right now. Still, I can do some basic marines that haven’t received their full robes yet I guess.

Matt Crump will be putting a page up here soon, Matt was a Golden Demon finalist recently, in the Warhammer Single Mini category. He asked if he could put a picture of his entry up, so I offered him to do his own page here at WCF, as his work is stunning!

More to come!

In observance of Veterans Day/Remembrance Day

For The Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England’s foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

WIP – AoBR Black Templars Dreadnought

I recently went in on the Assault on Black Reach set with my buddy. He snaffled the Orks and a couple of SM bits and I had the remaining Space Marine figures. I want to do a Black Templar army and figured this would be a good way to get some troops and whatnot.

First up on the construction block is the dreadnought. The snap-fit assembly of the AoBR stuff is great, although some gaps are apparent. There is still a part of me that thinks that these snap-fit mini’s are somewhat ‘cheap’, but slowly I am suppressing that train of thought.

This fella was put together very quickly, and was very easy to do. I yoinked a couple of pieces from my Space Marine Battle Force sprues to add on as well. Unfortunately the casting of this dreadnought is such that unless you are prepared to do some really, and I mean really, intense converting, repositioning etc, he is in a kinda boring pose.

I added a couple more purity seals, a scroll on the left arm/shoulder area, a loin cloth and a banner. I am still undecided as to whether or not I should add a smoke grenade launcher just in front of the banner pole.

I added a couple of pieces of debris to the base, not too much, as I don’t want it to detract from the final model. I have some ‘green-stuffing’ to do and some battle damage that I want to add as well. Watch this space for further developments!

For the Emperor!

War-torn and bleeding…

Can you see the dawn approach?
or see the fire in the sky?
Now the closing chapter of humanity,
the inevitable fate of mankind

Can you still believe in hope
on this darkest day you have known?
Will you still thank your precious god
or have the seeds of doubt been sown?

Will you admire the landscape
of broken bodies, of fallen men?
will you know the falling rain
as it burns onto your skin?

Devastation – untold
Pain and misery
the dying breath of hope
war-torn and bleeding…

Will you attempt in vain
to wash the bloodstains from your hands?
will you stop to lament the lost
their lives offered in your name?

Like a statue will you stand and stare
as though a cenotaph of despair
an inscription no-one will read
in this your final hour of need…
